Psychology

With concentrations in Counselling and Mental Health and Child and Youth Development, I prioritize empathy, compassion, critical thinking, open-mindedness, and holistic well-being. Demonstrating adaptability and the transferability of my interdisciplinary education, I have worked in various school, academic, and recreational settings in various capacities; as a mentor, educator, and panel member.

Dance Education

Foregrounded by experiences as a mentor across YRDSD, an active dance educator and choreographer, and an aspiring dance critic, I aim to bring awareness to dance's cathartic abilities. Committed to creating a positive, constructive, and encouraging teaching atmosphere, I offer services through private lessons that prioritize developmentally-appropriate education and physical/emotional well-being.

Creative Writing

I apply my unique lexicon of psychology and nature to produce professional and academic work with a creative flair. In the form of prose and poetry, I aim to inspire introspection and destigmatize mental health and other life experiences.

Work Experience

From the humble setting of her childhood home in Markham, Ontario, she immersed herself in her Indo-Caribbean heritage and popular culture to become skilled in Hip Hop, Soca, Dancehall, and other Street styles (Popping, Waving, Funk, House). She graduated from York University's contemporary/modern Dance program while also completing a double major in Psychology. She uses educational opportunities as well as independent projects in film, creative writing, and other artistic mediums to expand her research on dance's intersection with mental and physical health. The ultimate though ever-evolving goal is to bring awareness to the importance of introspection for developing resilience, fostering well-being, and unearthing creative potential buried within repressed experiences. She hopes to share her portfolio of knowledge about the transcendence of movement with other students, colleagues, and curious souls.

Artistic Statement

Before I was a dancer, I was simply someone whose mind was spurred by undefined emotions, all searching for a place to inhabit like the instinct for rushing water to fall through the first fissure it could find. Art arrived as a coping mechanism in my life and slowly established itself as a metaphor for more traumatic experiences. Dance– my artistic medium– allowed weighted emotions to live outside my body, taking the form of shadows, silhouettes, and reflections.
